What are your favorite wineries? I understand it is best to call ahead for reservations. Is this true? I'm particularly interested in the Tuscany/Umbria area, but would enjoy reading about others. Do any of them have restaurant on premises? We will be in the area end of June. Thanks

I live in Sicily on the north coast where we have some amazing cantinas and wineries. One in particular is the estate of the Conte Tasca Family in the Madonie National Park. My partner is a qualified sommelier and loves to visit the estate.

At the estate you can taste the wine of the Regaleali label and get a guided tour through the factory to better understand the workings of one of the oldest wine companies in Sicily.


Here in the beautiful region of Caltanisetta the Conte Tasca family has been producing superb wine for generations, today the vineyard has a more dynamic approach to the manufacturing of the grape, however the traditional buildings are fabulously preserved and are enjoyed by everyone visiting this perfect secluded spot.

The estate puts on a whole series of guided tours, with lunch and tastings. The lunch is as good as the wine as they produce all their own cheese, olive oil, vegetables and meats. They also have very special accommodation on the estate for that complete experience.

I know Sicily is probably outside the scope of your holiday this time but bear us in mind in the future as you could spend a whole week here touring from estate to estate and have a fantastic time.

I give you my two favorite wineries.
One is in Umbria, in Torgiano,and it is the famous CANTINE LUNGAROTTI.
They own the famous D&B LE TRE VASELLE.
The other one is in Campania, in Tramonti, an hilltown of Amalfi Coast, and it is APICELLA.
Their red wine 'A SCIPPATA is, IMO, a little masterpiece.

Thank you so much. I must apologize, I posted this question before I really did any kind of research on my own. Afterwards, I did a search for Italy wineries and realized there is a plethora of info right here on Fordors!! But, please feel free to add to this post.... maybe we'll start another good thread.

One more thing, we will actually be based in Florence 4 days and Venice 3 days so finding one that would be a good side day trip from either would be great. also, might be in Siena for a couple days.

Vincenzo, I'll have to get out my map... think those are doable from our base???

Sicliangems, just wish I could return to Sicily. It is one of my favorites.

You might consider a tour guide.
Small vineyards has just started tours and they are wonderful.

CANTINE LUNGAROTTI is in Umbria, close to Perugia, so it is possible a trip from Florence; not possibile for APICELLA, they are located very close to Amalfi Coast, in Campania.

DH and I enjoyed the chianti region while staying in Siena. We did an organized (small van) tour that made two winery stops, plus a walk through the little town of Castellina in Chianti. Nice way to spend a day!
