Shrink, you might also try checking into what they do in Tahiti to celebrate.
I know that has been a very minor complaint of some people who have visited me over Christmas. There aren't the huge celebrations, nor major lightings here as there are in many parts of the world, and that can make for a bit of holiday blues for some people.
You just have to know what to expect wherever you are visiting during Christmas, especially when it's a time when most people are surrounded by their families, traditions, and familiarities.
Good luck in your decision.

Shrink,
How was the temp in Florence while you were there? It has been really hot here in Houston!! Of course we are always in a/c. So now wondering if Florence would be too hot mid-August to be outside sightseeing???
By the way I loved Bora Bora and Moorea, Tahiti was nice too. I am sure you would enjoy it, but you might want to check on when typhoon season occurs.
THANKS!
