Italian version of a citron presse?

One of my favorite warm weather drinks in France is a citron presse. We leave on Monday for 3 weeks in Italy (Umbria and Rome). What beverage would I request to enjoy a similar lemon flavored beverage? I don't like a heavily sugared drink when it's warm. Thank you for any suggestions, Deborah

Well, Limoncello certainly springs to mind, but you're probably looking for something non-alcoholic.

Maybe limonata, it's not too sweet. Or ask for some lemon with your sparkling water and see what develops?

There is a lemonade drink in Italy but I forget what it's called. The name sounds similar to citron presse and it is exactly the same as in France - lemon juice in a glass with sugar and a jug of water on the side - you make your own to your taste.

Just don't ask for lemonade as you will get something similar to a lemon fanta or lemon squash.

A limonata is a soft drink.

A spremuta di limone is what you ask for. Lemon juice (often with the seeds) in a glass, with water in a jug and sugar on the side.

My problem is I very much dislike water with gas, don't like highly sugared drinks and on occasion want something without alcohol; that's why many a day a citron presse really satisfies!! I do love Limoncello

Adrienne, I'm hoping someone will have a name for the drink you described because that's exactly what I'd enjoy.

Thanks for the help, Deborah
