ciaodeb- i am having the worst luck! now they are not emailing back, even though i sent my credit card info (which they asked for) three days ago!!!

My tickets are for June 19th, so I know i'm within the timeframe and my hope is to get the Amica fare, as i have to pay for 4 adult tickets (rome to salerno).

cross your fingers for me that they respond!!!

Ciao Dina,

Venice office has not answered me and I am now shooting another to them with a similar heading.

Buona fortuna! - Good luck! ~Debbie

I just read your post again, Dina, and put in this e-mail theirs, asking for your credit card!!

BTW, what is the Amica fair? That is one question I am waiting for Venice office to answer! Why are we, as Americans, entitled to it? Most the fairs on Trentilalia site are for the European community. Is it a family fair?

From the Trenitalia site:

The Amica fare is the economical solution that lets you to choose your journey in advance. It has limited seats, which vary according to day, train and class.

The new "Amica" tariff allows you to travel with a 20% reduction off all the medium- to long-distance trains when booking by midnight of the day before departure. The minimum price is 10 euro.

Briefly:
Trains allowed
AV, ES*, ES*city, IC Plus, IC, ICN, Exp, CC, WL

Booking change
Before departure :free once for places available - for the Amica offer, paying the price difference - in the case of lack of places for this offer
After departure: not allowed

Ticket change
Once until train departure paying the price difference and the change fee.

Access to other trains Allowed on the same day and up until 3 hours after the train's departure or on first available train of the same or lower category by paying the price difference + 8 euro. On other days, travellers are considered as being without a ticket

Refunds Before departure: refund with 20% deduction fee
After departure: not allowed

the amica fare is available when the tickets first come out to anyone -- there are limited seats available, so the amica fares can sell out. the difference might only be 6 euros, but convert it to dollars and then multiply it by four, it adds up.

i will try again with your advice...

thanks!!

Thanks, ellenem and Dina for the Amica explanation. Ellenem, you knew it down to the bare facts!! Did I miss it on the Trentitalia site?

Dina-- what I mean is if you are sending ANOTHER e-mail simply COPY what they wrote to you in asking for your credit card to book order.

In other words, show it to them you sent credit card as they asked for it and you are waiting for an answer. Paste/copy and good luck!

I didn't know it . . . I copied it and pasted it from the site.

Here's the Trenitalia page with clickable links at right for each type of fare:

I use the website to gather info. I always wait to buy tickets when I reach Italy and avoid the online agony.

ok, thanks for encouraging me to try again with the Rome Amex office, which I did, TWO times, and i finally got a confirmation that they bought our tickets for us. We got the amica fare, and they had no service charge -- same exact price as the trenitalia website. Hooray!

Great Dina! In the meantime, I never heard from the Venice office but now my cousin is picking me up from airport and we are going to buy a ticket for next day Milan to Venice. I still would like to get my husband + son a ticket so they are assured, when they arrive on same flight week later, they don't have to deal with any last minute frustrations. Happy travels!!!

Has anyone used any of the North American travel agencies listed on the Trenitalia site as authorized ticket vendors? They have four or five in Canada and dozens in the U.S.

Here is a link to the correct page on the Trenitalia site: http://tinyurl.com/63m75p

I'll be calling first thing tomorrow!

I called the one listed in MA and talked with Ellie. They were having the same problems as I was trying to book the specific tickets that I needed. She indicated that they didn't have good access to all trains either. But my request was somewhat complicated. Sue

Just want to reiterate Ira's suggestion, (way, way upthread) to keep trying to buy tickets online at the Trenitalia site at off-peak hours, Italy time.

I was able to finally reserve and pay for my tickets, Amica fares, by trying late afternoon EST.

Buona fortuna!
