Italian Trains

I will be in Italy with a friend in about a month. We are going to be going from Rome to Florence to Venice by train. I have already reserved the tickets because my travel agent said it was smart to do so, but I would like to know if it is hard to get another ticket or exchange our current tickets if we decide, once we are there, that we would rather leave at a different time?

We were told that you can exchange for another ticket anytime before the original departure. Not sure if there's a small extra charge.

We bought our tickets in Italy and changed them for an earlier train at Florence station about half an hour before the train was due. We got told as long as there were seats you could change trains, it didn't cost us anything.

You will be traveling on popular routes at a popular time. Try to make this exchange a day or two ahead, especially if weekend travel is invovled, to ensure seats are available.

See my posting: Eurostar Italia: differences between first and second class for a discussion of exchanging seat reservations.
