Italian Train Question - Overnight Ticket Classes
I was just looking on Trenitalia to attempt to price some tickets for my September trip with my husband. (I'm just using March dates to get an idea of prices) I am having a lot of trouble trying to get a price for the Venice to Nice overnight trip, but mostly I just do not understand the ticket classes.
If I put in 1st class, it comes up with 2 options - Single Sleeper Global Price and Double Sleeper Global Price. It gives me a price of 280 euros for the Single Sleeper option for "2 Normal Tariff", and it won't give me a price for the Double Sleeper. I am guessing that the double sleeper is what I want, but I'm not sure?? Also, this is not 280 euros each, is it? It looks like 280 euros total, but who knows with this website... If I put in 2nd class, it comes up with options of T3 Sleeper Global Price, Couchettes Comfort 4 Global Price, and Couchettes 6 Global Price. Am I correct to assume that these are cabins where we would be sharing with 3, 4, or 6 people (inc. us)? |
Hi E,
To get a dbl sleeper price you have to enter 2 adults. >Am I correct to assume that these are cabins where we would be sharing with 3, 4, or 6 people (inc. us)?< Yes ((I)) |
I did enter 2 adults, but it still won't price the ticket. It appears to be some kind of system error as opposed to an input error (it says "booking temporary denied"), but I don't know why it's only happening with that ticket class. I put in 2 adults - 1 male and 1 female - and selected "same compartment".

There aren't that many First Class Sleepers - since they're so expensive. They're not always available on every train, and even when they are they can be booked up early (and you're looking at March dates at the end of Feb).

Hi em,
What's the route? ((I)) |
NYTraveler, thanks for the idea! I checked an April date and it gave me a price, woo hoo!! 220 euros. Does it make sense that the double sleeper is cheaper than the single sleeper price?
|
The price per person for two people sharing a compartment will be less than the price of a single-berth compartment. There aren't actually any single-berth compartments: if you book one, you will get a two- or three-berth compartment with the unused bunk(s) folded out of the way and locked.
|
Yes, the single sleeper price is for 2 private compartments. The double price is for 2 people sharing a compartment with each other (or each person sharing a compartment with another passenger of the same sex).
|
It does make sense that the double sleeper is cheaper PER PERSON than the single sleeper.

That all makes perfect sense now. Thank you so much for helping me get through Trenitalia h*ll! :)
