Italian stop over

Hello, I am travelling from Rome to Sorrento in early May 08...I would like to spend one night at a mid point prior to proceeding to Sorrento...and vice versa when returning from Sorrento to Rome 12 days later. We will be renting a vehicle. I'm thinking of Terracina or Gaeta....has anyone been to these towns or could possibly recommned others for a short stay (1-2 days).
Thank you,
Mikek

Hi Mike - My usual suggestion for a stopover between Rome and Sorrento is Sperlonga.

Hi M,

It's only 3 hrs from R to S.

Do you really want to overnight along the way?

Yes, Sperlonga/Gaeta is my choice, but only with a car.

If you could spare two nights (maybe don't do the overnight on your way back) I'd suggest San Felice di Circeo which is a quiet and very lovely little town on the coast. With the other day, do a daytrip to the island of Ponza which is totally unique.
