Italian Speakers

Could any Italian speakers tell me the correct way to prounce La Spezia (the town near Cinque Terre). Is it La Spe zia or <BR>La Spez ia. Is the accent on Spez or ia?

Accent is on the first syllable (La SPE-zia). Remember that "z" in Italian is pronounced like "ts."

The accent is on the "e"

La SPAY zee ah

I agree with jahouli that z is pronounced like ts (or, actually, IMO, like tz), so I would combine the answers to come up with la SPAYT-zee-ah.

Sam is right.

To make it sound even more idiomatic, you should make Spezia two syllables, the last one sounding more like "tsya". People who make Spezia into three distinct syllables sound more American.
