Italian Night Trains

OK, I keep reading post that are dusturbing regarding the lack of security and outright crime on Night Sleepers within Italy. Does anyone have any negative recent experience regarding security on night trains within or even to Itay?

Never! Everyone seems to assume that there so many thief's out to get tourist. I read many 'watch out' reviews before my trip, and walked around convienced that it is so, it is not. The night trains are as safe in Italy as they are anyplace in the world.Just use common sense-don't invite the one in a 1000,00 that may be a thief to single you out,i.e. no massive gold and diamonds hanging out, no designer equipment, etc. Once I accidentaly got on a train that I thought was going to Tuscany and instead it went back to Rome. Well, when I got to Rome, very late, the right Train that I got on back, didn't post that it was going 1/2-way to Lucca, because the trains stop running at whatever time I was on the last one. So I get to the last stop, even no taxi's or public transport available to go to a hotel,, the only choice I had was to sleep in the provided lounge. I claimed the table in the middle, valuables, clunched, suitcase as a pilow and not one incident from others in the same situation. In fact, I was in the ouside waiting room, when a shappy-looking Italian told me that a warmer lounge area was inside. Negative, no, not at all.

I've used Italian night trains many times over the past 28 years with no "security" problems. Sleeper compartments (and couchettes) can be locked from the inside. They're just as secure as a hotel room.

I am hoping for a great expierence. I will be taking my first overnight train in a couple of weeks. Paris to Venice and then Florence to Paris.
I am really hoping I can get a good nights sleep. I will have a couchette with six going to Venice and a four bed returning.

are there windows in the 6-person sleeper cars, so when the day breaks we can look out the window?
