Italian money

I've just been reading up on the fine points of parking and driving in Italy on the Slow Travelers site. Apparently there are parking meters, toll booths, and gas pumps that will accept cash. My question is - are these all converted over to Euros or will I still need lire, especially as far as coins?

Lira are a thing of the past. Pretend they never existed. Everything will not accept Euros.

So if lira's never existed and not everything takes Euros what do you do?

I'm sure xxx meant will "now" accept... the lire is gone completely

Amazing what a difference a simple little typo will make. Yes, I meant now instead of not. I can't believe I did that, and I really can't believe I didn't catch it after I did it.

The Euro currency has printed paper notes and coins. I prefer the VIN lanes on the toll roads. I use my Visa or Mastercard and charge the toll. It's faster and easier than making sure you have the proper coins.
