Italian Lakes - Driving from Venice to Milan

I would appreciate any advice on suggested ways to tour from Venice to Milan via at least Lake Garda and Lake Como, although we would love to get as far as Stressa. We have five days, are used to driving in Europe, and like to pack as much in as possible. We are not shoppers, not really all that focussed on Galleries etc.
Can anyone help? Thank you.

Driving time from Venice to Lake Garda (Sirmione) is 2:30. However, I would recommend to drive the scenic coastal road which will require more time. From Lake Garda (Sirmione) to Lake Como (Bellagio), driving time is 2:45. From Bellagio to Stresa, driving time is 2:45 again and from Stresa to Milano 1:30.

With 5 days, I would drive via the Dolomites---Cortina to Ortisei on day one. Then, south to the north end of Garda abd stay at Riva or Limone . Lastly, drive to Lago Como for 2 nites--you pick it---Varenna or Menaggio.

melissa,

Absolutely take Bob's suggestion. The best of northern Italian scenery! The spectacular Dolomites and the lakes. I have friends who discovered Limone on their trip a few years ago. Loved it so much, they cancelled all other lodging and plans, and just stayed there for 2 weeks! They now return to their "Italian family" every year.

Sorry its taken me so long to get back in. This is really what I wanted to hear. I loved the idea of the Dolomites as well. I really want to have a beautiful drive, be able to stop when we want with somewhere gorgeous (in terms of the location) to stay at the end of the day. Thank you so much.
