Italian Lakes Area
My husband and I are taking a train from Paris to Venice in June. We want to visit on of the northern Italian Lakes for about 4 days before going on to Venice. Any suggestions about a particular lake or town/village. Small hotel or B&B 100E or under would be great. Nothing fancy, just clean, comfortable and beautiful scenery. Thank you

I would fly on volareweb.com Paris to Milan, rent a car and go to Menaggio, Varenna, Bellagio (on Lake Como) or Stresa (on Lake Maggiore). I can't rattle off the name of lodging quite that inexpensive, but someone else will be able to.
You can drive the car on to Venice and turn it in there. Or Verona. Best wishes, Rex |
We stayed in a little Swiss town called Ascona in the canton of Switzerland known as The Ticine. It was Italy that worked!! We were only a few miles from Italy itself - the traffic became chaotic in the space of a single block, I kid you not! We stayed at a cute hotel on the promenade and took day trips up the valleys in the Alps. It was really wonderful. In June, the lake is full of boats which will ferry you from point to point. Highly recommended. ]

Do you remember the name of the hotel in Ascoria? Thank you. |
Town is called Ascona. Hotel was something Hotel del Porta or thereabouts.

Hello Ginn, with that routing, I would stop at Stresa on Lago Maggiore. Lots to do in the area. You can see more, and all about hotels, at www.stresa.net
The Primavera or Moderno would fit your bill. Both are centro and easy to find and a block from the boat docks. |
