Italian heatwave

Over the latest couple of weeks Italy has been affected by an heatwave pretty unusual for this time of the year almost like the one which we had back in april last year.
Temperatures have topped over 30 degrees from the North to the South , with the north more affected and very high temperatures even in the northern Alps.
I want to share with you the photos of people having an early bath at the Ostia beach , near Rome (the favourite beach by Romans who crowd it warm weekends)
The photos are from the Rome edition of the national daily La Repubblica.
Enjoy

According to the weather reports I've been checking, it is 6 PM in Rome and the temp is 66 F. I see it has gone up to 72 F during the day. Average temp is from 44F to 66F so how is all this 30 degrees above the norm. If you have any info, greatly appreciated as we're leaving Tues. but still have time to toss out the warmer stuff.

My take on that would be that it's been hugely hot when out in the sun here on Ischia over the last week or two...

But thus far the buildings etc haven't warmed up very much, so in the shade - and where the 'official' temperature measurements are recorded - things are rather different!

On our shaded terrace, the thermometer has hit a high of 24C this week, and at 20:20 is still showing 18C - whereas it quite was impossible to sit out in the sun in the black trousers I'd put on this morning.

So perhaps pack according to where you most like to be?

in the UK we too have had an unseasonably warm 2 weeks, but that is over now and we have reverted to normal.

it was nice while it lasted - and nowhere near as hot as Italy!

Patricia, the OP did not say 30 degrees over norm. He/she said temps topping 30 degrees (centigrade--i.e. 86 F) and mentioned the north being affected more....Rome, of course, is south, but even in April I would be prepared for the possibility of Rome feeling hot. We were there in late May one year and while the temp was in the upper 70s-low 80s, it felt brutally hot. Lots of concrete holding the heat......

I'm packed for spring in Rome with temps from 44 to low 70s. All my stuff is cotton with long sleeve shirts that can be pushed up. I'm bringing one pair of kaki crop pants, everyhing else is light weight black cotton slacks. We're leaving Tuesday. I live in Florida and feel the cold. I was in Amsterdam in late May and they were wearing black. We were a bit more up but, fortunately, left the hibiscus stuff at home.

If you live in FL and are sensitive to cold, I would be sure to have some scarves as well, in case you feel chilly. I live in Boston and am sensitive to heat, not cold, so what I perceived as hot and humid may feel comfortable to you. And of course, we were there 2 months later into the season.

Is there anything like a bit of praise on the internet for getting something to change, or go wrong?

Completely overcast here today; late morning, and still only 16C...

If your guidebook hasn't got something similar, it might be an idea to print a copy of this - the forecasts here usually don't include Fahrenheit equivalents!

Headed there in a couple of weeks will pack for all seasons. Was snowing in Rome not too long ago so things seem quite variable this year. Layers for me rain gear drip dry and sweater. onebag.com weather2travel.com climate guides help me lots.
Hope it stays warm as we will mostly be in the north.

Well, I live in the very north, even northern than lake Como, near the alps and it feels like at least 28 C. I commute to Milan every week and I found it darn hot in the latest two weeks.
PatriciaOne: Unfortunately temperatures are going down (back to normal for this time of the year I guess) according to the weather forecast. I'll post here the link to some reliable websites you can have a look at to know what the temp is likey to be

Note : you have to digit the cities you want in Italian ( for instance ROMA instead of Rome MILANO instead of Milan , NAPOLI instead of Naples, FIRENZE Florence, VENEZIA Venice etc.
