BATUFFOLINA, ah cultural differences, eh? Just to add this - the "Amen" expression comes from the grand old tradition in southern US churches, where a member of the congregation may be so moved during the service that they enthusiastically leap to their feet and shout "AMEN!", being so in agreement with the sermon delivered.

Not to speak for Ira, but the expression he used has now become more or less an Americanism meaning "Great point" or "I couldn't agree with you more". I've never heard it used sarcastically, so I think you two are pretty much in agreement.

For those who didn't see the story, here are the photos:

BTW, the man's suit is not "apple" green; it is a perfectly presentable olive green.

Amen, honey child! Sing it to the rooftops!

Latins are so easily excitable and hot blooded. You just got to love them! Its a wonder Americans don't get in even more trouble in Italy!

You mean those small green things I was eating, and loving, in Italy weren't -- as O.C. Smith sang -- little green apples?

Thanks for the link so everyone can see the before and after photos. It did seem like a brighter green to me at the time and the website even refers to it as a "unique" green.

Just saw the photos. I'm all for proper grooming and dressing up rather than down, BUT... IMO, HE looks like a used car salesman trying to look like a stockbroker, while SHE looks like she walked off the set of AbFab. Pointy toes aside, since when are pale coloured shoes worn with black stockings?

I wanted to buy some of those elf like pointy shoes in Rome, but I kept missing the store hours. I thought they were cute, the points curl to the side like a jester's shoes. Too bad, I really wanted them I like different styles like that whether other people are wearing them or not.

Oh get off the pointy-toed shoes stuff. That style is cute and comfortable.

I wear very high heeled pumps and I wear very high heeled boots. All pointy toes. I have long feet. And, I have wide feet. I have had lots of foot ailments due to improperly fitted footwear. I can honestly say that my pointy-toed shoes are much more comfortable than other other style of high heels that I've owned recently. Yes, I know that they may look painful, but they are not. Come on, did any of you actually try to cram your toes into the points? If you did, you should go to a better shoe store with professionals that will show you how to properly wear shoes. As long as the body of the shoe is wide enough for your feet, the points don't come into play.

Now watch me walk away from this typical fodor msg board silliness in my very chic pointy-toed, lace-up, black, stiletto heeled boots.

MizzEve, the fit that you describe (i.e., the pointy part goes way beyond your foot) is what makes one's feet look so large. I've got nothing against stilettos upon occasion, but if you wear them all the time you have a pretty good chance of eventually messing up your back and/or knees. And that's not sexy at all.

MsEve, we bow down in our dowdiness to your ever so fashionable self..as you mince away from us.
BTW-I am wearing my pointy toes shoes now that make my feel look twice as long and hurt like hell.
But then I too am a fashion victim and that jerk at Bergdorfs should have told me that I would only be able to sit in these shoes.

LOL, re-reading my post, you can see that there is a direct correlation between feet hurting and not being able to type!

I grew up with pointed shoes and I ended up ruining my feet, and now 2 bunions operations later, I wore just the most comfortable shoes or sandalsthat I can find, and the only thing that I wear are the SAS shoes. This shoes are great, the leather is very soft and are handmade. I learned my lesson, but like I always says, is Never Too Late!!

I'm the one who said I liked them. I think the jester shoes are cute, I wouldn't wear them for walking around all day, but for a night out without much walking I think they would be fun.

High-heeled and pointed-toed footwear can't be all that uncomfortable. If it was, I don't think it would be the choice of cowboys.

Batuffolina - I, too, think ira was expressing agreement but he should be the one to make that clear. I can't say I understood the entire meaning behind his moment of Southern Baptist-speak, if there is any meaning at all to be found here.

Degas/dumas - I answered your query regarding double posts (in capital letters, no less) and you, of course, did not. It's quite clear to me who the cheater/rule-breaker is on this board. As far as, "I think you enjoy looking for trouble or creating some when none exists," you are speaking of yourself here, aren't you? As far as the personal stuff goes, that's my life and these are some of the things that have made me who I am. The travel experience gets richer when you bring your life experience along for the ride.

Scarlett - There's a big difference between people who succeed in the fashion business and people who don't. It's an ugly business, for sure, but what high-stakes creative business isn't? There's also a big difference between someone who wears something and someone who creates something. No two shoes are exactly alike, even if they're all black. Try telling Meryl Streep or Madonna that clothing design is NOT a high art form. Even though they may or may not be fashionistas in their everyday life, they'll still laugh in your face.

ChubNuts - It's always been clear to me which runway you don't stand on. My mother taught me many, many years ago that you DON'T need money to have taste and style and she proved that with my Dad's measly $15, 000-a-year income. She said, "All you need is an education." It's too bad that too many Americans are just too damn lazy to pick up a book and read. Ugly shoes, awful perm, bad haircut, tacky hair color, tasteless clothing, terrible English, not a pretty package, who will buy it, who will hire you, try and enjoy your life.

Nice post Clifton.

Thank you Ryn for the url.

Degas/dumas, yet again - "Amen, honey child! Sing it to the rooftops! Latins are so easily excitable and hot blooded. You just got to love them! Its a wonder Americans don't get in even more trouble in Italy!"...read above.

The truth is, I can't wear the extremely pointed shoes and I think some of them are down right ugly. But, some are adorable and cute and very retro. I can fully appreciate any design when I see a woman knows how to pull it all together.

If jor posts another Rants and Raves for Friday, I'm going to rant about clothing and shoes! I wish we could call a moratorium on the subject (for at least 24 hours, please please please).

Re: My mother taught me many, many years ago that you DON'T need money to have taste and style

Agreed (although people who make their fortunes in the fashion industry would likely argue, at least publicly, otherwise.) And don't forget the corollary: having tons of money does not automatically confer taste and style on someone. Just look at Saddam's palaces.
