We are planning a trip to Italy and will rent a car (Auto Europe??) My husband wants to rent a Ferrari or old Alfa Romeo....is this feasible and/or cost prohibitive?

Hi PA,
>...My husband wants to rent a Ferrari or old Alfa Romeo....is this feasible and/or cost prohibitive?< Yes and yes. ((I)) |
Renting an old alfa is probably the same cost as renting anything else. (the Ferrari is another matter. Figure $500 plus per day). I recommend that you do an internet search "Noleggio Epoca" (translates to "rent of age"). I know of 3 companies that rent Alfas #1 Garda Classics (located in Desenzano del Garda).
#2 Happy Rent has sedans (locations in several cities). #3 The third company has alfa spiders, locations in Rome and Chiusa (NNE of Rome) I think Zacharus is the name. Also, there is a company that rents Porsche 911s (over by the adriatic, north of Rome). Yes you can rent an old Alfa spider for about the same cost as an economy or compact car. I hope that this helps. |
Here are Alfa websites
www.zephyrus.it $110 per day for 7 days. $190 per day for two days www.happyrent.com www.sprintage.it Similar pricing to above www.gardaclassic.com |
Hi PA,
For 1/2 the cost of an Alfa, you can rent a new convertible. |
No offense, Ira, but what's your point? The old alfa would easily be "twice as neat". This in not unlike being able to rent a room at a modern hotel for half the price of a room in a wonderful old Italian villa.

It's an odd question abut,it's really quite simple.
ira's point is to cut cost, regardless of quality-needs and satisfaction by the traveller. |
I honestly wish you COULD rent a Ferrari for $500....but if he's super serious you could have a look at this link (you have to do it in Milan, tho..): absolutely dirt cheap rental for a little over $11,000 per week.

Before you rent ANY car in Italy, you better check what the insurance will cost you. Based on past experience, you MUST buy the Collision Damage Waiver when renting in Italy. None of the standard credit card CDW will cover you in Italy. AMEXCO won't even let you rent a car of any make Italy and charge it on your card.

If you want to rent an Alfa Romeo in Italy and not spend a lot of money, just rent a mid-sized car. You won't get a sports car, but it's still fun to drive and at regular price of a mid-size. We rented a mid-sized car from AutoEurope and got a brand new Alfa Romeo with a thousand miles on it.

Hey guys,
It's not like the old Alfa Spyder was really super terrific, I mean like, it's not a Jag 120 or a Healy 3000 or even an MG TG. Take a look at current Cabrio class. They're pretty snazzy. ((I)) |
