Italian Alps - Val Gerdana or ....

Want to visit a mountainous village in Italy in July 2016 with family of 3 (child aged 9 years).

We are not into Skiing.

Want to enjoy Scenic & Natural beauty which may come due to the Green areas, some lakes, breathtaking views of surrounding, mountain & hills and enjoying it with Cable car ride.

Which location would be better. We thought of staying in a village in Val Gerdana lets say Ortisei or Selva.

Any other suggestions.

We are on a Budget and expecting to pay Euro 130/ for B&B per night for the family. Any suggestion on accommodation

How would the weather like be in End July

In Val Gardena, we like to stay in Selva for access to some of the better hiking trails via the Ciampinoi and Dantercepies lifts that are within easy walking distance of anywhere in the village. But any of the three villages in Val Gardena would be fine. The bus system and lift system is wonderfully interconnected. Depending on how long you plan to stay in the area you might consider renting an apartment. In Selva, I would highly recommend Residence Cairn (http://www.residencecarin.it/en/apartments.html)
Weather at the end of July should be perfect for hiking and sightseeing.

asimm, we are going in July, my research led me to Ortisei as it seems the right size for us (restaurants, accommodation), several cablecars, direct bus from Bolzano, nice hikes.
We've been to the Bavarian Alps several times in July, my favourite time of year for the intense green landscape and colourful flowerboxes (and missing part of our winter); we had daily rain and cool days last year and mixed conditions previous to that. But the walking was still lovely and I plan to just select valley walks on days it's not ideal for mountain hiking.

We stayed for a week in Selva in July 2012. It was a great place for easy hiking as their are many different lifts to take you to the top. Hiking from lift to lift is easy, scenery is stunning and the mountain restaurants have great food. We hired bikes on one of the days which was also fun.

The weather was fabulous - not to hot or cold.

We really liked Selva but also visited Ortisei and would stay in either. Selva is smaller and spread along the main road whereas Orstisei has a pedestrian square for wandering in the evening. Both have excellent acces to cable cars.

Val Gardena is a great summer location.
