Istanbul Visas

Traveling to Istanbul in September. Can I get a VISA at the airport when I land? How much? Do they accept american $.

I am told to get it while in the US but a company wants $30 for this service

The Turkish visa is just a small stamp they stick to your passport and costs $20 at the airport. You must have exactly $20, because they will not give change. If you have a European passport it is E15 and for the British 10 Pounds, but 70 Canadian Dollars for canadian citizens.

It takes less than half a minute, but there may be a queue if too many flights land at the same time.

the visa window is on the left of the passport control booths.

We got ours in advance from the embassy here in Washington, DC. Of course, we're here, so this was easy to do. The line at the airport in Istanbul for a visa seemed quite short and moved quickly, so I would just do that.

I believe you pay extra to purchase it in advance. You have to go through the airport passport line anyway; the visa queue added perhaps 5-7 minutes to my process last June-July.

In October it took about two minutes with a few people ahead of me. I handed the clerk my passport and a $20 and she returned the passport and stamp without even opening the passport.

Immigration took a lot longer.
