Istanbul-Safranbolu-Cappadocia

Hello, can anyone tell me drive times--and whether roads/directions are easy to follow between the above locations?

Istanbul to Safranbolu
Safranbolu to the Cappadocia area

Thanks!

Times I am not quite sure at this moment but driving is easy.

From istanbul you take the motorway towards Ankara, from Bolu/Gerede you will have a split for Safranbolu.

From Safranbolu to Cappadocia, best is to drive to Ankara and to Cappadocia.

Safranbolu to Ankara about 1,5 hrs and Ankara Cappadocia 3,5 hrs drive.

Cheers

Hi jlyn

From Istanbul to Safranbolu takes almost 5 hours and you have to be carefull between Bolu - Safranbolu because some place are very dangerous for tourist.

When you look at the Turkish map you may see the road between Safranbolu to Cappadocia it seems short cut BUT road very dangerous I used that roads 2 years ago. Use Safranbolu-Ankara-Nevsehir Road much much better.

Thank you both for the information. Sinan, what do you mean by parts of the road being dangerous for tourists? That the road can be a little tricky to negotiate? That signs will all be in Turkish?

I am trying to decide whether I can travel to both the coast and Cappadocia in 9 days. Any thoughts? Or am I better off to concentrate on one over the other?

If you use air transportation you can do all in 9 days. Or narrow down the sites to be visited and split it to 2 days. Roads sometimes can be tricky to negotiate but generally speaking if you travel daytime and you are patient thats Ok. Signs are international road signs and you can read as well.

Cheers and have a great time in Turkey

HI jlyn

When you are driving a car with 90 KM speed in normal road suddenly you may have norrow road. When I was driving that road I saw some missing sign 2 Years ago. There is no problem for Turkish drivers because they know the road but TOURIST don't know the road. That's why I warned you.

I am going to Turkey in May/June for 2+ weeks so I have been doing some research and ran across this great site at http://www.infoexchange.com/Turkey/WhyGoToTk. There is an offer to call or email him for advice for $25 and he will advise you on your trip and send you 3 Evil Eyes. The money helps him keep his site up to date. When I have a more detailed plan I will be calling him! Have a great trip!

Thanks everyone. Thanks for the extra information about the roads Sinan. Knowing what to expect will help me prepare! Euro, I was thinking about doing the same thing! I've spent tons of time researching. So what I would recommend--as I look back in retrospect--is to have a short session with him near the upfront time to help you narrow down. I've changed my mind several times and wish I had been working with someone up front. Then have another session when you've narrowed things down. Pricey? Yes, but I wish I had done that as I have spent hours and hours and hours researching.... it's fun on the one hand, but I've spent a little too much time doing it.
