Istanbul - Cappadocia - Santorini - Mykonos - Athens
We are trying to book a last minute trip to Turkey and Greece. We only have about 2 weeks. I know our desired itinerary is ambitious, but we know it is doable and we like to move around.
Our desired places are Istanbul, Cappadocia, Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens. We don't care too much about the other islands, unless some people highly highly recommends another island over Santorini and Mykonos, but we'd like to know the best (convenient and decent pricing) for going to our desired stops (we are willing to skip Mykonos if the schedule is too tight).
This will be in early September. Thanks for your help!

This is what we are thinking of...
In 2 weeks:
arrive in Athens
fly or ferry to Santorini
ferry to Mykonos
fly to Istanbul via Athens
fly to Cappadocia
fly back to Istanbul
This sounds like a lot of flying and ferrying. I'm afraid it will be a hassle to do all this, but it seems like many people have done something similar. After doing a search for possible flights and ferries for early September, the costs for 2 will be close to $1300... seems pricey to me, and that doesn't even include other transportation costs like renting a car/scooter and taxis. What are your thoughts? What do you all think of this rough itinerary?

Our route in Sept. is this (we have been often to Turkey before)
Arrive Athens, ferry to Sifnos, ferry to Paros and Antiparos, ferry to Santorini, fly to Athens again. Then fly to Rhodes, ferry to Fethiye (2 weeks in apartment), self drive or bus to Kusadasi and Selcuk, ferry to Samos, bus to Izmir for flight to Istanbul, then home. You can fly to Kayseri and back(pick up/return rental car there for Cappodocia visit. This is for 5 weeks.
Ferries are very cheap and internal airlines like Cyprusair,Olympic,Aegean, Pegasus etc very reasonable if booked ahead. www.economycarrentals.com give good prices.
Turkish busses are cheap and good.
We have also done a circular route of Turkey (Istanbul, fly Goreme (Kayseri + car),fly Antalya, drive to Izmir and fly Istanbul) which includes the best of Turkey for 4 weeks - excellent! I hope this gives you some good ideas. We travel cheap but well.

Hi Peter,
There are many flights from Istanbul to both Kayseri (ASR) and Nevsehir / Cappadocia (NAV) airports. There are also direct flights to Kayseri from Izmir which might come in very handy.
Driving around is very easy in Cappadocia but there are also shuttle services going directly to the hotels like Taskonaklar Rocky Palace.
You should not miss Cappadocia and definetly consider doing a hot air balloon tour while there!

Hi
So that's $650 each for 3 flights including Athens to Istanbul. That's $200 a flight on average. Not costing a couple of ferry rides. Seems a pretty reasonable cost. Maybe check Kayak - http://www.kayak.com - for more airline alternatives.

We took a ferry from Pireas to Santorini. I think you'll have to fly to Athens to get to Istanbul-from there we took a flight to Cappadocia-a not to miss spot. (also not to miss Santorini & Istanbul) Enjoy
