Issues with Vatican online ticketing website?
 

This is a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone else is having trouble trying to book Vatican Museum tickets directly from their website? I keep getting the error shown below during the payment processing step.

I've already spoken to my bank, and they don't see any payment attempts, so it doesn't appear to be a fraud alert situation. I also tried a different credit card (from a different bank), which required me to authorize the charge via the bank's app; after authorizing the charge, I still got the same error on the Vatican website. So it seems clearly an issue with the Vatican's payment processing.

I've emailed the Vatican ticket office at the email address they provide on their website, and am waiting for a response. But since I imagine many people book (or try booking) tickets there every day, I thought I'd see if anyone else is experiencing this issue and has found a solution?

Apparently this is indeed a common problem. I got an email reply from the Vatican that was mostly unhelpful, but I found this extensive thread about the issue on TripAdvisor. If you're having this problem yourself, read through the thread for more info.
