Isle-sur-la-Sorgue: Advice, please!
 

We are staying at La Prevote, and have dinner reservations at the hotel's restaurant.

I was wondering if anyone recommends eating here or somewhere else. We will be arriving late in the evening (7pm) on a Saturday, and are not familiar with the town so I thought eating at the hotel would be convenient. It also looks nice on the website.

We will enjoy the market on Sunday morning, but would love any other tips or advice for getting the most of this town!

La Prevote had a Michelin star a couple of years ago, but now does not. It was OK when it did have a star, and should still be fine. The town itself is great to walk around, and easy as well because it is only about as big as your hat. A visit to the Fontaine de Vaucluse is worth the effort.

when walking around in the morning try to book a table for lunch. Most places really fill up on the weekends. Just wander around and find a place that looks good ( I promise it's easy to do in the town).

Thanks for the advice. But when you say "OK" , do you mean mediocre? It's sort of pricey, so I wouldn't mind getting out and trying another place if it's not wortht the $$$.

There is a restaurant in Ille sur la Sorgue named "..?... le Herbes." It is, as I remember, closer to the poste.

I have a question of my own -- I will be in Provence in June and the Sunday market is on our itin. I was there 3 years ago and we did not eat in town after the market (we bought "stuff" to take back to our B & B for a pique-nique! However, this time we probably will have lunch in town and I've seen pictures of people sitting at tables on the little bridges over the river. What restaurant would offer that area? Looks like something I could do for many hours! Merci!

I like Le Jardin du Quai. La Carre des Herbes is one mentioned but that was years ago. Be sure to visit Michel Biehn's beautiful home that has his shop on the main floor if he's open.
He is an author of several books on Provence and is a famous collector of ancient costumes, boutis, pottery.
And the antiques/collectables courtyard of the cote cour. Both on Ave des Quatre-Otages.

I don't really frequent expensive or fancy restaurants so this may not be anything you would consider, but I quite liked the restaurant in the Hotel Cantosorgue on the north side of town (right on the main road going up to Pernes les Fontaines). This is just a modern 2* motel/hotel, but I had dinner twice there when I was staying in the area, and their restaurant was quite good, I thought (and reasonably priced). One of the big draws was they have a terrace right on the side of a stream with mill and it was really pleasant to sit there when it was so hot out. You don't need to reserve, so it's a backup. It was typical traditional French meals (I imagine I paid 25-30 euro total for everything, including wine and dessert). It was obviously a favorite place for locals to go out at night judging from the clientele.

This is their website which doesn't discuss the restaurant much, but gives a map -- you can see a photo of the nice view from the breakfast room area, and the dining terrace is very similar (but outside, I think it is below that area).

The only thing I notice is they show photos of the bar, breakfast room, etc. but do not mention the restaurant on their website. So, if you do consider it, you might give them a call to see if they do still have a full service restaurant (it's not a long drive, anyway, though, just a couple miles from center city on the north end).

we stayed in velleron, about 5 mins away. we ate a a restaurant affiliated w/a hotel (forgot the name) and were quite disappointed. it was pretty fancy. we ate o/s in a garden area. the place to eat after the market is the pizza place where you sit o/s along the river. it was highly recommended and we were doubtful but it was good.ask your hotel for recommendations. we had 3 phenominal dinners - we ate twice at a 1 michelin that our inn, villa velleron recommended (small town) , and another at some great outdoor garden near gordes (not ferme de la huppe).
