Isle St. Louis Apartment
 

Family of 6 in Paris early October. Does anyone have knowledge of this address: France/Ile de France/Paris
12 rue des deux ponts - 75004; said to be 2 doors from ND; would the bells ring all night?
Any other suggestions welcome. The usual specs - clean, comfortable, well located, etc.

Well, since ND is on Ile Cité and your apartment is on Ile St Louis, it's doubtful the hotel is "2 doors down"...

You should probably give the agency name or website so people can view your choice.

I have read reports of folks who stayed on Ile St Louis, and no one ever mentioned that the bells disturbed them.

Google is a wonderful thing. If you put an address in, you will get a map or something. Here is the, or an apt at that address.
I agree, there is no apt 2 doors from Notre Dame..you have to cross a small footbridge to the island that ND is on.
I have stayed on Ille St Louis and never heard the bells (which Do Not ring all night..nor do they ring all day)

You can see actual pictures of the street on pagesjaune.fr. Its a great addicting site that maps out your address and the shows you actual photos of the area.

From the main page, go to the right side where it says "photos of cities". Select paris and type in your address and you will see where the apartment is.

I am familiar with the street and the area and it is a great location, more like a 10 minute walk to ND. It should be quiet and it is quite central. Its a good place to base.

Not only is it on ile St Louis - it is in the middle of the island and actually closer to the right bank than it is to ND. Don't worry

If noise is a crucial issue, you might consider that the Rue des Deux Ponts is, as I recall, the only street on the ile that is offers motor traffic a straight line from left bank to the right bank, and vice versa. That's what the "deux ponts" (two bridges) are. I stayed at the right bank corner of Rue des Deux Ponts and the Quai du Bourbon, and I was not bothered by a lot of traffic noise (and certainly no bells from Notre Dame). Most drivers don't look to cross the Seine there. But their are other addresses on the ile which experience almost no motor traffic noise at all.

I like staying on the ile (especially when I can have a view of the Seine, which I did). I think the location is terrific, and romantic, and there is far less noise than most parts of Paris.

We stayed at the Lutece which is on rue St Louis en Ille, The main street on the island and still did not find it to be that noisy. No bells but a few late night revelers but the street is so narrow, there is not that much traffic at all at night.
I would not hesitate to stay anywhere on Ille St Louis~

We slept 7 in the 3 bedroom apartment and later slept 5 in the 2 bedroom (3rd. floor) across the street from the Louve in the historic Palais Royal. I would highly recommend the company as they were first class all the way: www.parisvacationapartments.com

We too have stayed numerous times on St. Louis, at the Lutece, an apartment, and the Hotel St. Louis and I cannot remember hearing the church bells at night. The main street rue St. Louis, is very noisy late at night when the bars or the brasserie close. We stayed for five weeks on Quai Bourbon (on the river) and it was very very quiet at night.

St. Louis is our favorite area to stay and has been for years, so IMHO, depending on the apartment itself, you will love staying there. Be sure to check out Pylones on the main street, great merchandise. Also be sure to eat at the Brasserie, right by the connecting foot bridge to Cite.

I stayed at the Hotel de Lutece in Dec. '04. Actually I did hear the bells from Notre Dame around 6 p.m., but not all night. Maybe those who didn't hear them were not in their rooms at that time, I don't know. But they were audible to me. And the sound added to the atmosphere! Your apartment is in a very nice location.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I continue to slog away looking at apartments and now realize my initial post may have been premature. I will continue to check the responses here and will post again when we've chosen an apartment.
