Isle of Skye trip report
before my trip to scotland, i consulted this site many times and asked often for help. i wanted to report one thing in particular. my friends and i (8 ladies) traveled from edinburgh by train to mallaig, then took the ferry over to armadale. we were met by donnie nicolson, a private hire, and driven to our hotel, by way of the scenic route. the following morning, he arrived at our hotel to pick us up for a wonderful day of touring. our time was limited but thanks to donnie, it was filled with the wonderful sites of some of the most beautiful country i've ever seen. he was a pleasure and i would recommended him highly for anyone touring skye. i don't think we would have seen near what we did if we tried to manage on our own and he was so friendly and informative. he advised where to eat, where to hear wonderful music (his son plays the pipes) and he has grown up in the area so knew so much that we never would have known without him.
i'm adding his email in the event that anyone needs a perfect tour guide and fun, friendly person to spend a couple of days with.

I am so glad you posted in and that all went well on this part of your journey. Skye is one of the most naturally beautiful places I've ever visited, and I went in "off season" when the weather was supposed to be bad---it turned out sunny and delightful, and no midges to fight!
Welcome back,

tannya,
Sounds like you had a great visit to Skye. We just returned from our Scotland trip and spent 2 nights on Skye. It was pouring the evening we arrived and all night long. The next day was a mix of clouds and sun, so we were very happy. We drove the entire trip but I wish we would have hired a driver for the island. We ended up going to the castle and to Portree, both nice. We wanted to go to the lighthouse that is west of the castle, but when we realized it was a single laner all the way over, we didn't go. We were sort of tired out by then and my husband decided he didn't want to mess with it. A tour guide would have been the way to go there for us.

We spent only part of a day in Skye, courtesy of a young Scottish friend who was driving us in his late uncle's 1924 Bentley (!). We've been yearning to return to the island every since...it is so magical.
