Isle of Skye or Cornwall and Devon?

We will be in Edinburgh on business on June 1, and then we have a week's vacation. While we adore Scotland, and have been there many times, including the Highlands and the Orkney Islands as recently as last summer, we have never been to Skye. But we've never been to Cornwall and Devon either. I love the looks of all those quaint seaside villages in England. Is it as wonderful as it looks? (We're flying back to the U.S. from Gatwick, so that's not a consideration.)

Well having been to both areas many times - both are wonderful. You cannot make a wrong choice here. But for convenience - this may seem strange, but Skye might be better. You could do a weeks loop through the far northwest then down to Skye for a few days then back to Edinburgh or Glasgow for a direct flight to Gatwick.

Devon / Cornwall are also fabulous but the logistics would be tougher - a LONG drive down from Scotland and then a fairly long drive from Cornwall to Gatwick. But if you want something completely different than Scotland, the southwest is wonderful. My favorite areas are the south Devon coast, Dartmoor (small remote villages, thatched cottages and moors/rock formations), and the south Cornwall coast - especially around Mounts Bay, St Michaels Mount and Lamorna Cove.
