Islay - walking resources

Hi all,

We'll be on Islay for several days in 2016 and I was wondering if anyone has any favorite guidebooks specifically for walking on Islay. Or if you've hired a guide who/what company did you use and how did you like it/him/her?

Many thanks!

I can't imagine needing a guide to walk on Islay

Perhaps you underestimate our ability to get lost! :-)

But you're probably right. We have our OS Explorer maps (waterproof) good hiking shoes and raincoats.

If you have the explorer maps and know how to read a map you will be fine (unless you get thick fog!)

The Explorer maps are brilliant as they have so much detail.

Perfect excuse to buy a better compass!
