Ischia Questions!!!
Hello--I would like to spend two nights in Ischia!! I'm coming from Rome. Can someone give be an idea of how to get there and also any info on how the island is set up and what to do/see with only 2 nights!!!
Thanks |
Hello.......we are starting our honeymoon (in July) on Ischia! Take the train from Rome to Naples, from there you must take a ferry to Ischia. We do not know a lot about the island either, but I do know the island is known for its thermal baths. I'm sure there is hiking to be done, and we may rent scooters/bikes.
Try ischiaonline.com for some info on the setup of the island. It is not a huge tourist destination compared to Capri, so there isn't as much info out there as for Capri (at least as far as I have seen). You could also try going to a bookstore and reading about ischia. Hope this helps. Josh |
Ischia is a wonderful island. From the train in Naples you take a ferry to Molo Beverello (that's the port) They may try to take you to Mergolina, but don't let them. That's much further and more money in their pockets. The aliscafi (jet boats and catamarans) run fairly often. You can see the schedules on Ischiaonline. If you can drive a shift, I always recommend renting a car (also on ischiaonline) unless you are going at a really busy time. They'll meet you at the port with the car. If you're going at a busy time like August, take the bus or taxi around. You just won't have the flexability. In Ischia Ponte ther is the castle Aragonese that is very interesting to visit. There are museums of the history of the island. Really very interesting. The specialty of the island is rabbit and fish. If you don't stay there, you must visit the village of Sant Angelo. Just follow the signs. When you think you're totally lost, you're there. The beauty is incredible. It's Capri without the price gauging. Click around ischiaonline and you'll get an incredible wealth of information.

Ann1,
Can you give some info on catching the bus when you arrive on Ischia? We will be traveling from Naples and we are staying in Sant Angelo...what is the best way of getting there? Thanks. |
Hello...spent a day there last year in the company of my 38 teenage students. We headed straight to the Poseidon Spa & had a wonderful time.Restaurants & wine bar on site- fantastic.Pack a bathing cap-obligatory.Enjoy your stay.If I might suggest a one day visit, head off to Procida-a laid back atmosphere with great restaurants.
