Ischia hotels?

Can anyone recommend simple accomodations in Forio, Ischia? I am not looking for luxury or extensive services/thermal/etc. Thanks!

Okay, it turns out I will be staying on the other side of the island instead of Forio, for at least part of my visit. So if anyone has suggestions for either Forio OR Porto, please tell!!

found this website when I was considering Ischia last year but didn't make it there, hope it helps...

Well, it's not exactly simple, but it is very nice -- Hotel La Villarosa. It's within walking distance of the town center and has a wonderful pool. It's like being in the middle of a forest.

When are you going and for how long? We were there 5 nights the end of May last year, but stayed in a 5 star hotel at a great rate (Miramare e Castello).
But I did notice that there is a tourist center that had tons of condos for rent really cheap. There are a lot of places owned by Germans who only go in July and August and rent them out really cheap much of the rest of the year. If you can stay a week, you can really get a good deal.

Thanks for the responses!
I will likely be there for 7 days but I think I want to split it up between the east and west sides of the island to take advantage of sunrise among the different locales (I'm a photographer). I originally wanted to stay in Forio for the week because I like it there. However the earliest bus won't get me to the east side with time to spare before sunrise (6:00 am the week I'll be there) so that's why I'm looking for the port area as well. I'll definitely check out the condo rental, thanks for the tip, although as a solo traveler it's usually not the bargain it would be if shared by two. Last time, I stayed in a lux hotel and loved taking advantage of all the amenities and lounging around. But this time I plan to spend very little time at the hotel. Ischiaonline is a great site, I'm sure I'll find something there. But any more recommendations are still welcome, thanks!

Nutella, how about St. Angelo? Did you get there before? Because it justs out at the south end of the island you get spectacular sunrises AND sunsets from there. And it is halfway between Forio and the Port area by bus, going either direction?
I'm not much of a photographer, but my impression is that it would be the most scenic spot on the whole island for taking photographs -- although admittedly that is saying a lot for such a gorgeous island.

Patrick, Have you been to Procida? If so, where did you stay there?

Nutella Jan 29th, 2005 12:43 PM

Patrick, I did stay in Sant'Angelo for several nights, then in Panza, last trip. I do think SA is the most beautiful and picturesque place! And I plan to spend a good deal of time there this time. Hmmm, that's a great idea, near the port a few nights and Sant'Angelo a few nights! Maybe Forio can wait till next time....
Grasshopper, I stayed at Casa Sul Mare in Procida, it was lovely!

Only did a day trip to Procida from Ischia. We decided to walk across the island rather than take a bus and got hopelessly, but wonderfully lost. Finally reached the other side and had a spectacular lunch, went up to the top and the "fort", and then walked all the way back. It was a great day.
