iSarlat Area, France
Hello: My husband and I will spend 9 days driving around the Sarlat area before heading toward the Pyrenees. Could anyone recommend a nice conveniently located B & B or as a second choice a hotel in the Sarlat area which we could use as our hub for day tripping the area. Of course your first hand experience would be helpful.
Also could anyone recommend a competent travel agent who specializes in France and familiar with these areas. Thank you so much! Sue |
I don't use B&Bs or hotels as I have had a home near Sarlat for 20 years, but a lot of people here have had good things to say about Les Cordeliers in Sarlat.
I doubt there's a travel agent on earth, here in the States, who knows a tenth of what a lot of people right here on Fodors know about the Dordogne. |
I am one of those with good things to say about Les Cordeliers. We loved our stay there for 6 nights last September.
If you do a search here, you will find a wealth of information on the Dordogne area. We used Fodors Forum for our trip planning. It was one of our best trips ever.... |
We stayed at Les Cordeliers in 2009 and had a great time...huge room, good breakfast and great location? We also loved our stay at http://www.les-granges-hautes.fr/en/ in 2006 and loved that as well!!

Jamikins, that looks gorgeous...I am putting it in my faves for next year!
I am going to go. |
We stayed at Les Charmes de Carlucet in 2007 and loved it -
the location is lovely (it's outside of Sarlat); the rooms/ suites are beautifully finished and the owners are very pleasant and helpful. www.carlucet.com |
La Lanterna in Sarlat. A wonderful B&B. Stayed there in 2009. Right in Sarlat. Walk to everything. Terrific hosts. Wonderful breakfast. Location Superb. check it out!

We have vacationed in the Sarlat/Dordogne area for 10 weeks, and I've put together an itinerary that describes our favorite sites, caves, castles, scenic drives, markets, restaurants, etc. I've sent it out to over 1,000 people on Fodors. If you would like a copy, e-mail me at [email protected] & I'll attach a copy to the reply e-mail.

In case you want to google it, it's La Lanterne, not Lanterna.
|
That's right! La Lanterne Sorry about that. We used it as a base and it worked wonderfully well. Drove all over the Dordogne.
|
No problem. Just wanted folks to be able to find it on the Internet.
|
Thanks Stu and St Cirq.
France is on our list next year!! |

Thank you all for your tips. We will follow up
