Is Versaille "worth it" in late November?
I've been to Versaille before (what seems like a million years ago) but my hubby hasn't. We're going to Paris for 4 days (second trip) and I wasn't sure if it was worth it without the gardens.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. |
I think it is worth it. The palace
itself is amazing, it is a pleasant train ride from Paris and several places nearby for lunch. |
November is not too late for garden foilage in Paris - i was in December in Paris last year and the leaves were still on the trees - causing a bit of local consternation.
|
where would you recommend to eat around versaille?
|
My first trip to Versailles was in November a few years ago and the statues in the gardens were covered up and I saw few flowers. There was a government builting near the train station that they were putting in the "winter flowers". This was the first week of November. I would say that at the end of November most of the leaves would be off the trees and most if not all the fountains would be off.

I know that I am going to be in big trouble for saying this but I would not take a day from a four day visit to Paris for Versaille at anytime of the year. Love France, love Paris, but Versaille - well, there are just so many more desirable options.
I hope you were serious that ANY thoughts would be appreciated. I also hope that you both have a wonderful trip. |
GBC, I was serious so I thank you. It's hard deciding what to do!
|
I ditto GBC!
Though we also think France is great! |
We were there in November too. You miss the gardens but you have amazing views from the rooms , Hall of Mirrors and the entire place is breathtaking.
We took the RER .. nothing nearby appealed to us so we ate when we got back to town. |
since you have been there before it depends on your husbands interests. personally i would do it, it is the ultimate palace-once you visit it you will cease to be impressed by any other.to save time just do the guided tour & skip the gardens & trinanons.
|
I read recently that the Hall of Mirrors is undergoing restoration...
You've been there before - are you inspired to return? Is you husband interested? With only four days...only the two of you can decide. |
I agree with GBC. With only four days, I would stay IN Paris - there is so much for your hubby to see there!
I visited Versailles in the Spring and loved the gardens. However, I got this really bad allegic reaction to the mould in the Palace itself, coughed my way through a few rooms and had to leave. Anyone else have that experience? |
I'm not sure if it would be "worth it" to take a day (or half a day) out of your 4 days in Paris to go to versaille, but we were there in Sep last year, it was a sunday, the fountains and music were on and we hired bicycles for the gardens, it was an amazing experience. My husband really enjoyed the time we spent there. I guess only you can decide if it would be worth it.

Add me to the "don't go becuase you only have four days in Paris" group. Love Versailles. Have been many times. Hope to go again. Would not go with only four days in Paris.
