Is Venice Possible?
I will be in Rome, Italy for 4 nights. Is it possible to go to Venice for a day trip? If so, what is the best mode of transportation and what can we cover in the timeframe we are there?
|
Is it possible? Yes. Is it recommended? Not by me. TThere is plenty to do in and around Rome. he best mode would be by train. However, the train ride to Venice is 4.5 hours each way, never mind getting to and from the train stations. So, 9-10 hours of travel for how many hours in Venice? You decide if it is worth it.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it a good idea? It will take you the better part of the day going and returning and leave you with precious little time to experience Venice. And Venice is to be experienced, not just checked of the list. You have such a very little time in Rome - hardly enough to scratch the surface. Why not spend the 4 days there and see Venice on a later trip??

Amazing that mamcalice and I were typing virtually the same thing at the same time. Seems like a consensus . . .

Thank you both!

Rome is wonderful - you'd have plenty to do in your 4 days and you may not even want to leave!
I haven't done this myself but there is a Eurostar direct train from Rome to Venice, it will take over 3.5 hrs. I adore Venice.... but with only a few hours there it will be hard to enjoy the true beauty of it. As far as what you can cover: of course there's the splendor of St Mark's Square and the basilica, but if you had just a day I'd spend most of it just wandering around and getting lost in the lesser knows areas. I have been to Venice 3 times and it never loses its magic. Enjoy your trip! |
No. It's physically possible but you won't have time to see anything.
