Is this Rome B&B in a good location?
 

Hi, I'm planning to travel to Rome in April 2011. Just started looking at some budget hotels and B&B's. I found one called 'Sole e Luna', with the address listed as:[ via Merulana n 117, 00185, Rome]. It's listed as being close to Termini Station and the Colosseum, as well as being between Basilica di Maria Santa Maggiore and Basilica di San Giovanni.

It seems like a good central location, near to the Colosseum and Basilicas, plus access to buses and metro. Just wondered if being close to the station might mean more noise at night etc. Any thoughts? Thanks, Greg

Rather than south and east of Termini, try looking for something in this price range north and west of Termini.

The location you listed isn't that central and you can probably find a more pleasant neighborhood.

However, there are posters here that know the area better than I do. I am posting just to get you started, and hoping those with more specific experience post, too.

As tuscanlifeedit points out, the Sole e Luna is not in a location central to most of what tourists visit Rome to see. From the street view on maps.google.com, the location doesn't look to be "bad," but I don't see many cafes or restaurants in the immediate proximity of the B&B.

This basic B&B near Piazza Navona was mentioned in a travel magazine. I have no personal experience or even first-hand reviews, but the two reviews on Tripadvisor.com are positive.

If you're staying in Rome for three or more days, you might consider an apartment. Another low-cost alternative are convents. Here is a link to one website for info on convent stays.

I don't know what your exact budget is, but I was very happy at Hotel Giardino Rome**, on Via XXIV de Maggio. It was a 5 minute walk to the Trevi fountain, 10 minutes to the Forum, a little longer to the Colloseum.

The owner is very friendly and helpful and they answer e mails quickly. They do have single rooms if that's what you need. My was a good size for a single and the bath was large. Double paned windows made it quiet to sleep at night. Otherwise ask for a courtyard facing room almost anywhere you choose to stay.

Book far ahead for Rome. It's always very busy.

I don't think that's a good location. Much better to be more central. Look in the Pantheon/Piazza Navona/Campo de' Fiori area. Very central, loads of good restaurants closeby, good bus connections.
