Mark,

Bayeux to Caen is only 31km. That seems like the logical port to use to get to Portsmouth.

You'll pay a premium price on a 2 day car rental. You might be better off renting in Salisbury and driving to Bath.

I understand that Bayeux to Caen is about 25 miles (you need to include the drive to the port), all I am suggesting to teach905, is that they look at LD Lines from Le Havre, because they tend to be cheaper than Brittiany Ferries.

It is about 80 miles from Bayeux to Caen - so an extra 50 miles or so ... on the good French motorways this will take them about 30-45 minutes driving ... so in reality this isn't much further & the cost savings could be a bit ...

Glad you all noticed my slight mistake ... I mean it is 80 miles from Bayeux to Le Havre .... not Caen!!

maps.google.com has it about an hour further - which one could easily consume just waiting for the less-frequent ferry from Ouistreham. I'd go for Le Havre, myself.
