Thanks so much for all this advice/info/suggestions. I will definitely read your trip report tomorrow as I'm calling it a night now. It's funny because as I was looking at a map of that area earlier today I made note of Tunbridge Wells-loved the name. I plan to do some research on the town tomorrow. We are positively doing the boat ride-in fact we will do 2-one from Eastbourne to see Beachy Head-they offer a longer ride but it's only by private charter and too pricey for me-and one from Dover that heads towards Deal-the other direction. Thanks for the info on the ceremony for the fallen soldiers. We visited a cemetery for fallen soldiers in Crete, one outside of Yangon, and did the walk at Hellfire Pass in Kanchanaburi. Those experiences were very moving.

I am almost 100% sure we will increase our time to 6 or 7 nights in the area. We are slow travelers/tourists. That is not only because we are seniors but I like to really absorb as much as I can of the history, etc. of where I am. That's why my husband and I travel independently so we can spend as much or as little time at places as we want.

I will write a trip report. I have been keeping journals of our last few trips as it helps me remember so much better. I have gotten so much help in my trip planning over the last few years from folks here on Fodor's and also from folks on Trip Advisor that I feel it's only fair for me to try to give back whatever I can to help the next person looking for information on destinations, lodgings, restaurants, etc.

Thanks again. I really appreciate the help!
