Is this a good deal from cdg?
We have a group of 5 staying at Hotel Dusquesne in the 7th. My hubby and I are well traveled and have been to Paris several times. However, our friends are not and want things to be as "easy" as possible. Our hotel has offered to arrange for an airport shuttle for 17 Euros each and say that's cheaper than a taxi. What do you think? Is that a good deal or should we just get in line for a taxi and get a van that can hold us and all our bags? I know most people on the boards seem to prefer the train, but they're not interested in dragging luggage and being confused, making mistakes, etc. as we have a very limited amount of time ( 20 hour layover! wooohoo ) in Paris and we want to get there and let the fun begin. Just wanted to know if we should take the hotel's offer or not?
Thanks Melissa |
I don't ever prefer taking the train, and I stay at the Duquesne a lot. A taxi to/from the aiport with 4 people and luggage will normally cost you about 50-55 euro (depending on number of bags), so do the math and decide.

if i am correct, some taxis donīt even take 4 people, and do any even take 5???
i have taken a few taxis in paris to and from both airports and unfortunately they have always been near 60-65 euros.. between traffic, etc. |
There used to be ...a dog's age ago...some rule in Paris that taxis couldn't take more than 3 people. That's a couple of decades ago. All taxis in Paris now take at least 4 passengers. Most of them are Mercedes wagons and large cars and lots of them are vans that hold up to 7.
I don't know where you came from that the fare was over 60. I've taken dozens and dozens of taxi rides to and from the airport over the past 7 years and never paid more than 55 euro, and that wason a day with bad traffic and having to take detours off the periferique. I never have more than 1 bag, though. |
Hey, do what you can afford, it is a waste of time quibbling about 5 Euro

We will have 5 people and our hotel is offering to arrange a shuttle for 17 Euros each, so that's 85 Euros total. My question was is this worth it or how much would the estimated cost for a van taxi for 5 cost us? The hotel stated that 17 Euros each was less than a taxi and I wanted to know if this was true. Thanks :) Melissa

ok, 5 people with luggage will need 2 taxis or 1 van, if you can find one on the taxi rank. I think that your maths is as good as mine in so far as 2 taxis will be more expensive than 17 euro each, !!!!!! - So what conclusion do you draw

Hi mm,
17-19E pp is the standard rate for an airport shuttle. If you go by cab, you might have to wait for a van or take 2 cabs. You are talking about 5E pp or less for the convenience of a guaranteed pick up at CDG. Also, the van price is fixed. A cab can get caught in traffic. ((I)) |
I will admit that I also have never, ever paid 60-65 euro for a taxi from CDG to the 14th or 7th arrondisement, or back to CDG from there, either. And I've taken them at times when there were some delays due to traffic holdups, or construction, etc. (or on Sundays when fares are higher). I have always had a raw fare of 40-50 euro for that trip, and then I tip a little on top.
I do think it was a regulation that taxis were not REQUIRED to take four persons, it was optional, and it wasn't that long ago as I have read the regulations in the windows. In fact, I think that is still the regulation, that they are not required to do it. |
We used beeshuttle.com for a private transfer in a van. The driver meets you with a sign. The rate is 90 euros
for 4-6 people, so its about 18 dollars a person. |
