Is there ferry service from Sorrento to Positano and Amalfi in October?
Happy New Year. My readings on the Amalfi Coast/Sorrento Pennisula areas are confusing as to ferry schedules. Can I expect ferry service between Sorrento and Positano and Amalfi in early October? I know I can plan on bus service to be available. It looks like Metro del Mare ferries stop running by October 1st. Are there other lines that are year round except of course during inclement weather? My searchings here and on google seem to taking me in circles today
Thanks for any help. Deborah

I would think so...but cannot be sure. We were there in September. The schedule was still running and based on the weather (it was still VERY warm there) I would think they would still run in early Oct. Can you email your hotel (if you booked one) and ask? I am sure they will know.

This seems to be a hard thing to determine. I was there in May and wanted to take the ferry from Capri to Positano but the service was limited so ended up having to go to Sorrento and then drive. I had a driver and had asked him this ahead of time and he said we had to wait and see. Happy travels!

Thanks for the help, I haven't decided which hotel yet because we are still undecided which town would be the best base for our travels, Sorrento, Positano or Amalfi. Knowing whether we can rely on a regular ferry schedule in addition to bus service in October would help with our decision. Thanks, Deborah

DA: bear in mind that ferry and particularly hydrofoil schedules are always subject to cancellation and/or modification due to weather conditions. This is true even during the summer. By contrast, buses are almost never cancelled (except for strikes or mudslides along the Amalfi Coast).

I was on Capri in early October 2003, and there was a ship running to Amalfi as well as several fast craft. By the end of October, the summer season is over and services to the Amalfi coast will have ceased for the winter. The Metro del Mare is a subsidized service designed to relieve road congestion, so that will finish before commercial excursion boats. In October, trips will continue so long as there are enough passengers, but schedules will not be regular and will be geared more towards taking day trippers. Nobody - not even the boat operators - will know exactly what services will be running next October as it will depend on various factors, including the number of tourists around.

Thanks for the information about ferry service. For some reason I have not been able to open any information on www.coopsantandrea.com website. As this is our first trip to Italy I wanted to make the right choice in selecting a home base for our travels. The Amalfi/Sorrento area has so much to offer, it is not going to be an easy decision. Thanks again for your help. Deborah
