Well - I don;t think there's been ESSO anywhere for at least 10 years - you must mean EXXON. And no - gas credit cards are not generally accepted in europe.

(And haven;t most of the ones in the US been converted to Visa cards? - mine all have.)

Besides - gas companies are mostly different in europe - you see lots of BP, AGIP and I think still some Shell - but lots I've never heard of.

hytraveler:

There are at least 1200 petrol stations in Germany branded Esso, which is the standard branding Exxon-Mobil uses for retailing throughout Western Europe.

Petrol company credit cards are, of course, accepted at all the relevant petrol stations in Europe - including petrol stations that don't accept Visa, MC or Amex.

But those issued outside Europe aren't accepted, and usually stations in each country accept only cards issued by the company concerned in their own country. The few trans-European cards are designed mostly for buses and lorries.

ESSO certainly still trade under that name in the UK and France (and not EXXON), so I would assume that they do in Germany.
I think that mingxa means can she use loyalty cards and not credit cards. I can't see why not, but I'd check with the issuer.
Of course you are going to see BP ( a British company), Shell ( a British/Dutch company) and AGIP (Italian) as they are European and not American companies.

Our Esso gas cards, issued in Belgium, do work in Esso's gas stations in Europe. Unfortunately we don't get points or the usual discount (husband works at Exxon) abroad.

Sorry flanneruk. We posted at the same time. Yours is a better answer!!

Sorry -

OP did not say where they were from - and since they didn;t seem to have info on Germany I assumed they were American. We no longer have gas credit cards (or at least all of mine have long been converted to Visa cards.)
