Is there direct bus service from Palermo to Taormina?
I just checked the trains and only to find out to get from Palermo to Taormina I have to switch trains in Messina. I'd rather get on "something" and get off in Taormina. Any suggestions? Buses? How much is a cab? Thanks in advance for your help. bob

I just checked the bus schedule at www.interbus.it, and there is no direct bus either.
Maybe GAC, who is the transportation expert for Italy, knows something I don't and will chip in.
At a guess, a taxi would cost 200 Euros or probably more; Palermo and Taormina are at more or less opposite sides of Sicily.

Eloise is correct, there is NO DIRECT bus or train service between Palermo and Taormina.
The FASTEST way to go is as follows:
1. Palermo to Catania by SAIS AUTOLINEE bus (departures hourly, fewer on Saturday and Sunday) One way fare Euro 11.90. Travel time 2 hrs. 40 mins.
www.saisautolinee.it
2. Catania to Taormina by ETNA TRASPORTI bus
(frequent departures, fewer on Sunday)
One way fare approx. 4 Euros. Travel time 70 mins.
www.interbus.it
As an example, if you take the 8:00 a.m. bus from Palermo to Catania, you can connect to the 11:00 bus and arrive in Taormina at 12:10. If you take the 9:00 bus from Palermo, you'll connect in Catania to the 12 noon bus, arriving in Taormina at 13:10. In both cases, the connection time is 20 minutes.
The bus station in Palermo is one block from the train station, on Via Balsamo. The bus station in Taormina is in the hilltop town itself, on Via Pirandello, making the bus more convenient than the train. The connection in Catania is at the bus station on Via d'Amico, also one (long) block from the train station.
If the you take the train and connect in Messina, it will take you longer. The only advantage of the train is if you want to see the long and scenic coastline to Messina. There are also fewer train connections. www.trenitalia.com
