Is there cheap lodging in Paris for a student for 6 weeks?
 

My cousin is going to Sorbonne for a 3-week program in May (sounds like an exchange program with Creighton, where she currently attends). She wants to stay there an extra 6 weeks <b>after</b> the initial program, to study French. Apparently it is an outrageous amount of money to stay the extra 6 weeks since Creighton will only provide housing for 4 weeks, so her parents may not let her stay. Are there any other reasonable places to stay near Sorbonne?

sure, there are several foyers (rooming houses) around there. The Sorbonne has classes in a lot of buildings all over Paris, though, so there is no guarantee she will only take class at one spot (in fact, probably she won't). However, being around the main Sorbonne location is probably convenient enough for anything -- all of their buildings I know where they have classes of French for foreigners are on the Left Bank, in the 5th or 14th or 13th arrondisements.

Their is a good foyer (rooming house) on bd St Michel near the Luxembourg RER stop. It's called the Foyer International des Etudiantes at 93 bd St Michel. They do limit it to females much of the year, so that's convenient. Here is one URL that has the appropriate contact and other info on it:

That root URL is the French association for student housing (Union National des Maisons d'Etudiants or something), so there are other ones searchable on there from the front page www.unme-asso.com

I also know another private one in the 14th which would be a pretty convenient location, also. The Sorbonne has a lot of those classes in a building on bd Raspail near the Raspail metro, actually. That one is FIAP Jean Monnet

YOu can also get a room in a dorm belonging to the Sorbonne at the Cite Universitaire complex, but I'm not sure how that timing would work out with that, but it's a possibility. I wonder where she is staying to begin with, you'd think it would be there, and she could make arrangements to stay on. There should be info on how to do that on their web site

There is a lot of info on a USD site. I was going to copy some here, but I think you would enjoy reading the advice they give their students.

Back in the day (waaay back in the day), I stayed at the Fondation des Etats-Unis at the Cite Universitaire (USD talks about it), and just showed up and got the room. USD encourages students to wait till they're there.
