Is there any "best tour" for the Doge Palace Secret Itineraries?

I've been finding a lot of websites with varying prices to reserve this tour. Any suggestions on which one is the best? I have no desire to pay $$$$ when the same thing can be obtained with $.

Thanks!

Why go through booking agencies when you can book directly with the Doge's Palace?

From their website:

< Secret itineraries
The tours are all with a specialised guide, for a minimun of 2 people and maximum of 25; they start at fixed time according to the following schedule; (English 9.55, 10.45, 11.35)
after 1pm tour can be arranged at various times, with an additional paymente of 31 Euros for group (suspended from 1st July to 31 August).

Bookings
- can be made at the Museum Information Desk the day before the visit or the same day, depending on availability;
- Telephone Booking at the number 0415209070 up to 48 hours before the visit. >

Or online:

We booked directly at the Doge's Palace when we arrived in Venice and booked our tour for the next day. We had no problems.

Hi H,

There is only one set of tour guides. They all work for the City.

Get your tickets from the phone number yk gave you.

You won't be charged if you don't go on the tour.

You can also visit the palace on the same ticket.

Well for one reason yk, I couldn't find that website so thank you!!! That's what I was looking for

Almesg, the reason I'm doing some of our bookings from home is because we'll be be in an apartment without a phone or concierge (just our cell phone for short calls/emergencies) and would like to have confirmation before leaving.

Ira, thanks for the info. Good to know the Palace is on the same ticket.

I agree, I like to have everything confirmed in advance also and we had not planned on booking when we got to Venice. We were in Rome first, then Venice. Before leaving home, we emailed our hotel and asked them to book the tour for us, and they said no problem. When we arrived in Venice and went to the Palace for the tour, we learned that the hotel had in error booked us for the Italian language tour. Certainly don't know enough Italian to do that, so we went to the ticket booth and rebooked the English tour for the next day. Worked out fine, but again I usually like to have it done in advance.

Online they appear to be all sold out for the days in am in Venice. Do you advise any alternative means of obtaining these tickets?

texstout-

Try giving them a call - they may still have tickets available.

We made our reservation by telephone. We got a confirmation code that enabled us to buy tickets at the ticket office. Just remember the time difference when you call.

I'll be in Venice in early June. I am curious as to what this tour is. The website did not give any information on this. Please tell me--

Hi Margo,

It is a tour of the administrative back offices, the jail, some of the private rooms, and the roof.

Thanks, Ira, but why would someone want to see this? By "roof" do you mean going up among the golden domes? And what about the jail?

Hi M,

>...why would someone want to see this?

Well, we didn't do this tour until our 10th (or so) visit.

They take you up under the roof of the building because the manner of suspending the ceiling is architecturally interesting.

Would I do it again? No.

I'm going on my first trip to Venice and won't be there for very long (2.5 days).

Ira - Would you suggest that my time is better spent on other parts of Venice and/or visiting Burano, Torcello?

Everyone's opinion is sure welcomed!
