I'm so lost without the old interactive maps RATP used to provide. I can work with a paper map for the metro.
But we prefer the bus. What is the best way to navigate the bus system now?

Is it something I can practice beforehand or does one have to have a GPS location in Paris to use it?

I use Citymapper. It gives you every possible way to get from point A to point B. It will even tell you when the next buses arrive.
