The rooftop in Galeries Lafayette is definitely worth it considering it's free! Views are very pretty. You can purchase food/beverages in the outdoor restaurant or just walk around gazing at the views with other tourists.

The Glasswalk! How did I never know about this! I watched the video. I think I would end up crawling on all fours!

The rooftop is great. I remember when it was just a large open space. Now there is a nice outdoor eating area. There is signage so you know what buildings you are looking at.

I ate there on my first visit in 2004. LOVED the views!

Why is everybody calling the place Angelina's? I guess for the same reason that they call that baked goods place Paul's.

I’ve been to GL many times but never got to the top for the view.....I hope it’s still open Nov. 3rd.

Here’s what we saw last Dec. 2018

In case you decide to make reservations at the restaurant as Belinda suggested. Gorgeous!

Starrs, that was the ugliest Galeries Lafayette tree in living memory in 2016.

Same reason my grandmother used to call the fish market Marino’s. Years later I learned its real name was Marine Fisheries. When she would call them to order something she’d say, “Hello, is this Marino’s?” And they would say yes.

Are those Angelina photos from Rue de Rivoli or GL?

The reason I want to go to GL Angelina is that we’ll be close by after our 11am Opera Garnier tour.

Beautiful videos kerouac. I’m sad that we will be too early on Nov. 1-5 to see the Christmas decorations.

I loved it.
It was gorgeous.
Breathakingly beautiful against the blue.
When I posted photos on FB some Fodorites said it was the prettiest one they had ever seen.

Rue de Rivoli. If the GL location is too crowded, the Rivoli location + taxi may be a better solution.

I'd confirm the dates but the tree may already be up -
https://www.solosophie.com/galeries-...hristmas-tree/

"Each and every year, from the end of October onward, a giant tree is erected in the very heart of Galeries Lafayette’s central court. Glittering against the dazzling backdrop of the art-nouveau architecture, the Galeries Lafayette Christmas tree is a sight to behold in of itself and makes a wander into the iconic department store well worth it…"

Great website starrs......if the tree is up in Nov. that will be icing on the cake!

I think I enjoyed the window decorations the most last year. The dancing cows were my fav and the tree was beautiful. My husband liked the couches in the shoe department. He let me wander till my feet gave out. It is something I would recommend for everyone. Munich does great store windows also at Christmas. I never enjoy Christmas but this has put a new twist on getting through the holidays. Leave and go somewhere beautiful.

kerouac Sep 11th, 2019 12:54 PM

The dancing cows were good, but it was a year where the Printemps windows far outshone the Galeries Lafayette windows, which is rare. (And also a bit odd because they are done by the same person.)

My ex and I did that for years. Left on the Saturday evening before Christmas and returned before New Year's Eve. I need to return to that! In 2016, I "skipped Christmas" in Paris and it was truly one of my best trips ever! Enjoying the beautiful Christmas season there, but skipping hard stuff at home.

Kerouac, it had polar bears in a gondola car. Hard to beat that. I mean, I don’t know if I’d call it “beautiful” or “pretty” but it was awesome.
