Is there a way to post photos to share online without having a personal website?

My husband took some beautiful digital pics of our recent trip through Germany, Switz, and Austria. I'd like to share these but not sure how, short of building a web page. And, since we can't leave our computer connected online (we have dial up) this wouldn't be feasible. Any suggestions?

How about ophoto. I've seen other put their photos here:

I just used www.worldisround.com to upload pictures we took in Paris this Christmas. It's simple to use, free, and I did it with a dial-up as well. You have to register and get a password, but I've had no "junk" emails as a result.

It sounds like you think that if you build a web page that you have to leave your computer connected to the internet all the time. You build a web page on a server, not on your hard drive. Many ISPs give you server space to do this.

Snapfish.com and shutterfly.com are great for uploading digital photos. You can then e-mail your "photo albums" to your friends, manipulate your pictures (turn them into black and white, fix colors, fix redeye, etc) and even order prints from there at extremely reasonable rates. I am hooked, and now everyone actually gets to see all of my pictures!

I've found worldisround.com to be very useful and easy, too.

tpatricco Jun 30th, 2004 12:12 PM

Try www.pbase.com. Their user interface is easy, and they offer a 30 day free trial with 10 megs of space to upload photos. Check out mine at www.pbase.com/tpatricco Trish

I use ofoto.com but there are lots of other photo sharing sites out there.

Garfield Jun 30th, 2004 12:55 PM

Another one at Sony Image Station: http://www.imagestation.com/

I've used Picture Trail to share my vacation photos - Once you sign up with them your photos stay on line for 30 days for free, after that they want you to pay. If you decline to subscribe to the pay service your photos go bye bye, but you can always start over next time with a different ID name.

There's also Webshots, which I've used to download photos for my srceen saver but I haven't posted photos to it. I don't know if their free photo posting has a time limit or not. You can check these two out at www.picturetrail.com and www.webshots.com

Try www.webshots.com

Amy Jun 30th, 2004 02:13 PM

I have found webshots to be a nice format; they have good features. If you haven't seen albums there and want an idea of what an amateur's stuff looks like, copy and paste
http://community.webshots.com/user/missalg
and you'll see my albums. It's a little time consuming but very simple...and free.

Great photos Amy...we're going to some of those same places in Austria in Sept...can't wait!

shutterfly.com is great, easy to use and free!

MzPossum Jun 30th, 2004 06:19 PM

Thank you all for the great information. Hope to have pictures up soon for you all to see. And, adrienne, I did think that about the website. This old dog can still learn new tricks!

smiroglotta Jun 30th, 2004 06:21 PM

Let me cast my vote for snapfish.com. Easy to use, and if you use their services to print, they are quite inexpensive-- as little as 15 cents a print. We even had a great hardbound book of photoes made form their from our recent London-Paris trip. The sharing of photos is what originally attracted me to the site.

Another option is pbase.com

I've posted a few of mine there.

Amy, your pictures are a treat! Interesting composition. I especially liked "Hallstatt reflected," but there are just a lot of neat photographs in your grouping.

Thanks again for all the help. I've started a trip report/ photos with Worldisround.com Look for "in search of the perfect bratwurst...
However, as I say in the article, my computer takes a long time to upload, so I've only got 2 photos thus far, plus I'm tired. So, I'll write in installments!

For a purely photo album site, I quite like Yahoo. You are restricted to 30Mb for each email address, but it's easy to set up different addresses for different destinations.

For sharing tips and advice in addition to photos, I don't think you can beat Virtual Tourist. Space there seems virtually unlimited and there are excellent forums for asking advice as well as the personal pages. For an example of the "personal" bit, I have almost 50 photos on my Paxos pages at

http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/6cdf8/665e5/

and have hardly even started to build my pages for other destination yet.

Hi

You could try the gallery section of www.spirit.ro .

uhoh_busted Jul 2nd, 2004 07:57 AM

I use ofoto when I want to share LOTS of pictures with someone/multiple people. I also have used them for prints and enlargements which have been wonderful, and just got an archive CD made with all 1400 pics I've got in various albums there, so even if anything happened to the site, I have copies at full resolution. I use Virtual Tourist, too, to create shorter traveloges with pictures. I'm at www.virtualtourist.com/radiomom there!

uhoh busted - just had a quick look at your Lyon pages - great photos for such a short trip. Desolated though to see that my accommodation heading for Paxos isn't original :-)

Was there another thread comparing various photo-sharing sites? I'm looking for it to send to someone.

luckykat Oct 24th, 2005 09:34 AM

www.flickr.com is the best out of all in my opinion. You can tag your photos, connect to friends and limit what kinds of people can view your photos.

cocofromdijon Oct 24th, 2005 11:12 AM

for my pictures of Dijon :
