IS THERE A SAFETY PROBLEM IN NORTHERN SPAIN?

I'm trying to convince my group to go walking/hiking in northern Spain, but there are questions about the safety in the area. Should this be more of a concern here than one would normally encounter in other areas while traveling?

Where in Northern Spain?

Do you mean the Basque lands? If so, I was wondering the same. <BR> <BR>There are several well-established hiking/walking tour cos. that run tours there.

Yes, I mean the Basque area, but not exactly sure what the perimeters of that are. Can someone define the area a bit more for me?

Fodors <BR> <BR>I think there's no danger, but you can check. The consuls of five countries hear of any dangers, so give good advice. <BR>You can read their considered views on <BR>from Australia on http://www.dfat.gov.au/consular/advice <BR>from Britain on http://193.114.50.10/travel <BR>from Canada on http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/menu-e.asp, under "Travel Reports" <BR>from France on http://www.dfae.diplomatie.fr/voyage...s/alphabet.asp <BR>from the USA on http://travel.state.gov, under "travel warnings" <BR>Some experienced American travellers find the American site over-cautious. It is therefor useful to check all five sites. <BR> <BR>Ben Haines, London <BR>
