We've booked a room at the Hotel Brouwer for April. They've charged us 80 Euros per room, unlike the 75 Euros that a previous poster mentioned. Just thought you should know.

Don't know if this deal is just for FEb., but we are going to Amsterdam next weekend and just got a deal at the Radisson for $108 per night, including breakfast buffet, one dinner, drinks and a discount pass. Might be worth checking their website for your dates in case.

Going back to the original poster's observations, I think the lack of under $120US places is more because of the general travel style of "Fodor" people, than reality in Amsterdam. Once I got into Let's Go, Lonely Planet, etc. there's tons of choices. But you may have to give up the private toilet idea to get it below $80US. And settle for a ground floor room because elevators are not so common.
Hi, Enda!

Try the Hotel Brouwer on the Singel canal, but get in quick as it is very popular. It's in a good location and is very reasonable at 80 Euros for a double room with ensuite facilities. The breakfast is included in the price and is very good.

I've been to Amsterdam in October twice and did not find it very cold. We had bright, sunny weather with the odd heavy downpour. Make sure you have an umbrella each for such occasions! Most mornings saw mist over the canals...so pretty. If you take a warm jacket or coat, you'll be prepared if it does get a little chilly.

We stayed at the TUlip Inn a couple years ago and it was outstanding! THere is another "tulip" hotel but it's pretty expensive. THis hotel is in the area around the university-very close tp transportation, food etc- the rooms are really nice-great bathrooms-& great breakfast-I highly recommend it

Brouwer looked fabulous on the website but was full (and non-smoking anyway which didn't match my plans for A'dam).

Hotel Toren is in the lovely Jordaan neighborhood but is a Rick Steves recommendation so as with all his places, fills more quickly.

Stayed at Hotel Kap near the Leidseplein area in a single with shower and sink, shared toilet, nice breakfast for $57 euro. Would try for better next time (a bit shabby but very clean) but worked out fine and I loved the area (20 mins. away from Dam).
