Is there a first class Selectpass for Youth?
 

It seems that the Selectpass for Youth only comes in a second class flavor. Is that right?

My wife and son (14) and I plan to travel this summer. We'd like to travel first class, but I can't seem to find that option for my son at the Youth pass option

I'm going out on a limb, guessing here - - but is it possible you do not know about being able to retrieve your own previous posts by clicking on your own name? I see that you asked a number of questions about rail pass purchase and itinerary planning in general, but none of those posts indicate whether you ever re-visited thise threads, or commented on the info provided to you/ questions asked of you - - back earlier in the year...

As was mentioned earlier, you will likely find that there are discounts for families traveling (two parents and a child) together like yours. I would reiterate that the purchase of a rail pass might not be your best choice. Are you still traveling from England to Italy by rail? via Paris? and prefer NOT to fly Volare?

A lot of nosy questions, I suppose...

I will reiterate what many have said before - if you find that a pass is cheaper than point to point tickets, chances are that you have a crazy itinerary. In any event, regardless of what you want to do on the way from London to Italy, it makes no sense to retrace your steps by train when you can fly incredibly cheaply on a one way ticket from Rome to London

Certainly, the Selectpass makes no sense for the route you described in an earlier post, since the Eurostar is not covered by the pass - you are simply entitled to a discounted fare of $135. If you really want to purchase a pass, go for the France and Italy pass which is cheaper and entitles you to a $100 fare on the Eurostar.

Bear in mind however that travelling on the higher speed Artesia trains from France to Italy is not included with either pass (only a discount like on Eurostar) and that you will still need to pay for mandatory seat reservations and supplements on ES and IC express trains within Italy.

Anyway, the both the Selectpass and France&Italy pass are half price for children aged 4-11, but full price after that (except for the youth pass, which as you note is only available in 2nd class). You are however eligible for the "Saverpass" option, since you will be 3 people travelling together.

I believe that Youth passes are always second class - the idea being that these are for students who want to travel as cheaply as possible.
