Is there a direct bus from Lisbon to Obidos?

Hi all,

I am going to Lisbon for 5 days next month and plan to take a daytrip to Obidos. I prefer not to join a bus tour. Instead, i would like to do the trip myself so I can take my time and wander around. Is there a direct bus to Obidos, i understand that the train is also an option but i have to make a transfer with the train. any help appreciated.
thanks.

You can hire a cab to drive you, they sit and wait at the gate to drive you home (there is a cab stand of sorts).

Thanks Cherrybomb,
Do you approximately how much would this cost? Thanks again.

I mean do you know approximately...

Sorry--I don't as we drove and stayed over. Do a search on hiring a car on here and you may get some results. Cabs are really cheap and there were a lot of people doing taking them to town.

After exploring the walls, my husband and I sat on the wall by the entrance and drank a bottle of wine while watching the cabbies chat while they were waiting to drive people back--at any given time there were 7-10 cabs waiting. It would seem too common to be outrageously expensive.

Yes there is regular bus service to Obidos - you may have to change at the larger town just south of it

There is also regular train service but the Obidos station is at the bottom on the immense pile Obidos sits on so go by bus

Obidos is one of the finest walled medieval towns i've ever seen

for a different experience stay overnight in the palatial Parador (actually the Portugeuse equivalent whose name escapes me) built right into the walls.

Not that far from Lisbon.

The town of some importance closer to Obidos is Caldas da Rainha. There are buses Lisboa/Caldas (approx 1 hour).
Caldas da Rainha is only 3 or 4 miles far from Obidos. I guess that the taxi ride Caldas/Obidos shouldn't be much more expensive than a few Euros (consider 10 each direction for budgetary purposes).

thanks all,

i'll look into the taxi option, since there are 3 of us that might be a good idea.
