Is the water safe to drink?
 

We will be in Provence and Cannes for 10 days at the end of June. Is the tap water safe to drink, or should we drink bottled water?

I don't know if the water is safe to drink, but the only question in France is do you want bottled water with or without gas.

Judy <BR>The tap water is safe to drink. Bottled water is preferred for taste and purity, same reasons people drink it in the US. <BR>If the tap water were unsafe, you'd still have to worry about ice cubes and raw fruits and vegetables that are washed in it, but it's not a problem. <BR>

Judy, Don't drink the water, it has terrible things in it. (That was for my wife's benefit, I prefer the wine.) The water is just fine.

Judy, The water pretty much all over Europe is fine to drink. But I always try to stick to bottled water, (not for brushing teeth or coffee or things like that) the reason that I do is because I seem to get mild bladder infections when I travel and my doctor said that although local water is perfectly safe, all water has distinctive elements and consequently someone who is not familiar, or aclimated to a specific area's water can develop reactions to it. The same goes for Europeans who visit the US. I just like to be on the safe side and keep a bottle of water around, or as the previous gentleman suggested stick to wine!

I am French living in the US - the water in my country is safe to drink - it may be less loaded with all the good stuff (fluor, iodine, salts) that your fellow countrymen seem to relish in their tap water but this may actually be beneficial to your health <BR>enjoy

Just returned from a week in Paris(6/05-6/12) and drank the water without any problems. Bottled water is more expensive than wine in resturants.

The French drink both water and wine with their meals so you will always find bottled water on the menu. I can't remember the price but it was not out of line.

Because we hike a lot up in the mountains, where water may drain off of a pasture, I carry a small backpacking filter. It is small and convenient. <BR>So if you have questions about the local water, take along a little filter and use it. The one I have takes out anything down to and including the virus level and virtually all of the evil tastes. Any outdoor supply store will have a good selection.
