Is the Pompeii site open on Sunday?

We plan to rent a car and drive to Pompeii from Rome for a day trip during our family's August stay in Rome. Can any forumites confirm that the Pompeii archeological site is open on Sundays? Do you know the hours? Are there other things we should see along the way or nearby? Any routing suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Scott and Family

The "Eyewitness Guide" for Italy says that the hours are: 9 am - 1 hr before sunset. Closed: Jan 1, Easter Mon, May 1, Aug 15, Dec 25. The Aug 15 date refers to Ferragosto, but I don't know if it's always 15th, or depends on what year. So if you aren't going on whatever day Ferragosto falls, then s/b ok.

The Eyewitness Guide is on the mark, Scott. Last time there we visited on a Sunday. Not to worry about Ferragosto 'cause this year it'll be on a Tuesday!

Paulo
