Is the Lido OK for a 3-day Venice trip?

We want to see Venice for 3 days or so in early September. A couple of places in Lido seemed nice (Quattre Fontane, for example) but we're not sure whether it'll be a mob scene.

Also, what about staying outside of Venice and using the bus or water trasportation?

Any help appreciated.

do yourself a favor = stay IN Venice. It just won't be the same - coming and going... you want to be able to fall out of your hotel room and hit the streets...

Yes, after more reading it seems that being in the city is the thing to do.

I hope you realise that the Lido di Venezia is NOT what comes to mind when you say Venice, but 30minutes boat-bus ride away. You want to walk out of the hotel into Piazza San Marco and the Gran Canale, don't you ?

Sorry to disagree with the above posters, however,I found our stay in Lido(July 2000)was great. Our hotel was fantastic, pool, fabulous dining, and the 5 minute walk to the boat launch was no inconvenience. The ride to Venice simply heightened the whole experience.Might I also add that I was accompanied by 32 teenagers who loved the arrangement.
