Is tap water portable in Germany?

Can anyone please confirm if tap water is portable i.e. can we drink water from tap in Bayern, Black Forest and in Rhine area?

Your quick revert will be much appreciated.

Regards.

Potable.

Yup! Just fill your own bottle. Most folks here have a refillable drinking bottle to carry around.

Yes, and the word is potable. It is, of course, also portable.

If I were worried, I would bring my own water from home.

revert is a new word and appears to be a noun (though I suspect it started life as a verb) and means "get back to you" not sure where it comes from but I saw it first in about 2000.

Revert is like reflux, and in this case comes from drinking non portable water.

Well Bayern is huge, and not all cities have potable water...
Munich has water of excellent quality, Würzburg,where i used to live had very hard water, that nobody was drinking......
Best thing to do, is to ask in every city, if the water is potable....

Potable = safe to drink
Palatable = pleasant to drink

Are you suggesting that there are places in Germany where the water coming out of the faucet is considered not potable? I find that hard to believe.

Bad tasting or hard water might mean non-palatable, but that's very different than non-potable. I am quite sure there are health standards in place that ensure the potability (= safe to drink) of the water supply.

"not all cities have potable water"

in Germany!

There will be fountains which will say not potable btthe stuff out of the taps will be excellent as in the vast majority of Europe. I only worry in eastern Europe.

J62 is spot on.
Tap water is potable (i.e. safe to drink) everywhere.
You just might like the taste in one region better than in others.
Water in Munich is extremely hard, full of minerals (as it originates in from a mountain spring), but quite tasty.

The German restaurants are the only ones in the world that won't give you tap water with your meal when you request it-they always want you to buy bottles of water and charge you 3 euros. While most restaurants in Europe want you to buy bottled water with your meal,Germans INSIST on it. My fellow f/a's think that its quite funny!
Unless its a 3rd world country,most water (especially in Europe) is perfectly safe to drink out of the tap.Save your money for the beer and wine especially now that the Euro is around $1.48 USD?
